The capital of Florida is Tallahassee and as far back as 10,000 B.C. the Native Americans lived in the Red Hills on the land that is now called Lake Jackson. Before the Europeans came, Tallahassee became important as a village with more than 30,000 people. Even back then, retirees was congregating to Florida. Ok maybe not. The Indians, of the Apalachee tribe, were very impressive farmers. All of what remains is in the Museum of Florida History. The first important exploration happened in 1539 by a man with the name of Hernando de Soto. Hundreds of settlers and soldiers came to live and this is when the first Christmas was celebrated in the New World.
Then in the year 1739, members of the Seminole tribe, wanted to take back their hold on the territory. You know by now this wasn't such a good idea. Soon, after British rule and after General Andrew Jackson become the governor of West Florida, the tribe was banished in 1818.
Tallahassee quickly grew with the establishment happening in 1821. There were bad times as far as gunfire and duels with, yes, knives. Law and order was necessary so more people would come, and they did, which established Tallahassee as a growing, safe city. The state of Florida became a state on March 3, 1845 and was the 27th state.
There is lots and lots to see and do in the state of Florida. One of them is Disney World which is the biggest park in the state. Thousands of people from around the world flock here every day to celebrate Mickey Mouse and all of his friends. There are Busch Gardens, in Tampa Bay, where exotic animals are free-roaming and, of course, rides for everyone.
Another fun place is the Richard Petty Driving Experience, where you get to drive a 600-horsepower Nascar machine that turns on a dime and your stomach is left at the starting position. When you reach about 124.5 mph, well, you know what flying is all about.
With three sides of the state being of ocean viewing, the beaches are one of the trademarks of Florida. There is fishing, snorkeling, water skiing, and many more water fun for you to partake in.
